ADA Accommodations

Americans with Disabilities Act

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits, under certain circumstances, discrimination based on disability. The ADA does not apply to the federal judiciary; however, pursuant to Judicial Conference policy, federal courts provide reasonable accommodations to all persons with disabilities.

If you are a person who needs an accommodation in order to participate in a court proceeding, please contact the court prior to your arrival to discuss available accommodations. If you are involved in a particular case, you should contact the case manager assigned to your case. See the Court's Directory page for the case manager's phone number and email address, or you may contact the Court's Space & Facilities Specialist, Lucia Leyva at (401) 752-7216 or by email at lucia_leyva@rid.uscourts.gov

Building Accessibility

  • The Courthouse is fully wheelchair accessible, including public restrooms.

  • All visitors must present a valid, government-issued photo ID and pass through security screening. Individuals with pacemakers or cochlear implants may request alternative wand screening.

  • Elevators are equipped with braille signage and emergency call features. Braille signage is also located throughout Courthouse floors.

  • Smoke detection systems are equipped with strobe lights and a fire alarm annunciator system.

Parking

The court does not provide public parking.  Street parking and parking garages surrounding the courthouse have handicapped spaces available to the public.
