The District of Rhode Island maintains a database containing the jury instructions given by the Judges of this Court in criminal cases since 2005. This database can be searched through: (1) a table that sorts the jury instructions by subject, U.S. Code section, or 1st Circuit Pattern Jury Instructions reference; (2) a table that lists the jury instructions in reverse chronological order; or (3) a page that enables word searches of the jury instructions database.

General Jury Instructions

The following jury instructions are “general” jury instructions common to every criminal case. This table only includes a judge’s most recent instruction on a particular “general” topic.

Specific Jury Instructions

The following jury instructions are “specific” to certain types of criminal cases. This table can be searched by U.S. Code section, Topic, or First Circuit Pattern Jury Instruction Number (if applicable), and contains all of the cases where this “specific” instruction was given over the last five years (or longer if no charge was given in the last five years).
